I really enjoyed doing the retro Transformers poster so decided to do a Transformers Revenge of the Fallen poster. It’s quite dark but looks good. See for your self.

One of my comrades recently made a post on his blog (which is also design orientated) about retro style images based around movies/books. Similar to what I’ve posted here. I’ve finally decided to have a bash at making my own (why waste a trip on a perfectly fine bandwagon?). Well, as many people who know me know, I love Transformers so thought I’d give Michael Bay’s movie the treatment. It’s actually based around Marvel Comic’s first ever Transformers comic. Alas I have no artist name to give the original credit to but you can see it here. You should also check out Spacesick and Dr. Monster’s Flickr account for some of their superior works in this catagory. Very nice stuff indeed.
Anyway’s here is my attempt at this cool meme.

Anyone that knows me knows I love Giant robots that transform. Yeah, transformers. Michael Bay released the teaser for the new film tonight via the superbowl and interwebs.
Do yourself a favour, click the video to go to Youtube and check out the HD version, incredible.
One of my favourite games of all time is Goldeneye on the N64. It’s a classic of game design, the box, not so much. It’s a slap dash job and was only passable even at the time of release. Olly Moss of flickr has decided to correct this wrong and has started recreating classic video game cobers in the style of old classic penguin books and golden eye is a doozy!!! I’ve thrown it down below along with the original cover for reference. Check out his flickr account where you can see his interpretation of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and Half-Life. Brilliant. I may just have a bash at something like this myself, but on a different subject.
The original.

Here’s the last live action movie I made. This was a blast to make and everybody was fun to work with, yes even you Erin McKenzie!!!
You can check out the rest of my stuff on youtube here.
Yeah, Twitter, I’ve heard about it but never knew exactly what it was. Well, now I know and I think I’m addicted! Today I created my own little background for it as a laugh. Anyways, it’s quite interesting that I can throw this stuff out there on to the interwebs for people to read, possibly, although I must say I don’t think I’ll be typing into every last detail!

LOOK OUT!!!
Oh yeah, my Twitter account. http://twitter.com/yetixx
Not a design post as such, which I’ve been incredibly crap at recently and promise to up my game, but I thought I’d throw a little shout out to a rather nice little music blog out there called adrift on deep water. It’s ran by a good friend of mine called Gearóid who is a massive music fan. What’s really good about his blog is the fact he finds all these strange and wonderful bands I would never normally hear, some I like, some I don’t, like all muisc really, and it allows me to “discover” them. There’s plenty of samples on there for you to have a listen to and find what you like and what you don’t, it’s all very eclectic. Oh yeah, he also types stuff on it too (who would’ve thought!!) which is usually very cool stuff about music and sometimes other stuff.
Anyway, check it out, it’s a jolly good blog!
In specialised communication I am currently designer about 10 A3 concept boards for our Oamaru Penguin Colony project. Today I got a little bored so I decided to create a new one. I’m a firm believer in children learning of the harsh realities of life and one of the things missin from the Oamaru Penguin project is DEATH. Enter Little Blue to teach young uns about the end of life. Of course I’m noit a completely uncaring kind of guy and realise that shown too harshly it could damage yound children.
I’m think I’ve managed to get the balance between reality, education and fun just right
So, the Diesel wall competition is well and truly under way now with one of the four walls closed for entrieswith another (New York) to end tomorrow. My design is for Manchester which closes on the 18th I believe. My design went through quite a bit of an evolution, not in its theme, but in style. I initally wanted to do a high contrast black and white piece about urban renewal. Originally haling from the north of England this is something I have seen happen around me over the last several years of my life there (I left Blighty for NZ 2.5 years ago). I’m old enough to rememeber the IRA bomb that destroyed a substantial part of Manchesters city centre, so with this in mind along with the amazing leaps forward in urban renewal/regeneration this was something I felt is close to my heart.
The idea was of a character fighting his way out of relics from the past whilst also trying to avoid been swept away by a wave which is trying to envelope him. Above is a mock up of the initial sketch in situ whilst below is a larger version.
Although I stayed with the concept the design changed to more of a metaphor whilst using a more simplified and clearer image to understand. The little guy now has fought his way out from the demons (relics of the past) and emerged from the tidal wave, almost in a born again style statement, in the distance can be seen green hills and blue sky, symbolising a brighter future. The guy, however has a worried look on his face which is to show he is afraid of the mistakes of the past and doesn’t want to repeat them. Here is the finished piece which I have submitted to Diesel.
I am happy with the image and really enjoyed researching and creating this image. Hopefully something good will come out of it, if not never mind
